As I approached Search Level 15 for Starly, egg moves start appearing as the first move, Revenge for example. On Route 2, that means it can be level 4-5. Right now Starly's level bonus is 2, so it's possible to encounter a Starly that's 2 levels higher than what you find on a route normally. Eventually, the levels increase, as indicated by the "Level bonus" displayed in the Dex Nav tool. For example, I'm trying this on Starly and after a few encounters, and I guess maintaining a chan, it now shows Starly's first move is Tackle and its ability is guaranteed to be Keen Eye. As the search level increases, it shows more info as you approach the Pokemon. There is a search level, hidden abilities are displayed. I assume you have to walk and not run to approach the Pokemon. Oak's Aide on the east exit of Pewter City gave me the DexNav! It works similarly to the ORAS one. Brock gave me a Rockium Z and TM39 Rock Tomb, yay. Eventually, I survived with Bulbasaur and got the win. I switched to Starly during this to use Growl on Onix, that helped. To take out Onix and Bonsly, Bulbasaur had to use Sleep Powder and Leech Seed. Mankey KO'd Rockruff, Onix KO'd it with Continental Crush. Brock's team was Rockruff, Onix, and Bonsly. The third time was the charm, as RNG was more on my side. Mankey was underleveled and would not last past the first Pokemon most of the time. I unknowingly removed Vine Whip for Sleep Powder, the consequence of speeding up and going on autopilot. My best Pokemon for the Brock match, Bulbasaur, only had Take Down as an offensive move. A Buneary I caught has Klutz and it also picks up items! Wow.

I caught a Scatterbug, and though it has the Shield Dust ability, it ends up picking up items like the Pickup ability. The Gym assistant in Pewter City gives you a Z-Ring and Normalium Z before you can enter the Gym.

I have the Exp Share enabled to get Mankey's level up as quickly as possible. I also have Bunnelby and Pachirisu, but they are purely for Pickup. My team for Brock will have to be Starly, Bulbasaur, and a random Mankey I caught. After almost an hour of searching, I gave up. I was close to getting one, but I ran out of Poke Balls, and it kept breaking out of the ones I had remaining. Riolu's on Route 22, and I couldn't find the right one.

I grinded up Starly to level 10 and swept Blue's team of Charmander and Starly on Route 22. I've caught 13 Pokemon by this point, 14 if you count the initial Starly I caught. Capture Exp is a thing.Īfter blowing through Poke Balls catching Pokemon and running out of money, I finally found a Pokemon I can legitimately add to the team: a Jolly Starly. For Route 1, there's Zigzagoon, Sentret, and Pidgey. Getting a little start with Dex completion, I aim to catch every Pokemon in a route. You can turn it on and off, unlike in Gen 8. It's a Gen 7 one, so it acts as a bag item instead of a held one. If it's not too big, I'll work on completing it.Īfter beating Blue, Oak gave me an Exp. I don't know how large the National Dex is. Understandably so, Kanto is such a small region, over 800 Pokemon can't be crammed in here without coming off overcrowded, see Omega Red. The creator of this hack, "Dr._Seuss," said that he didn't cram in every single Gen 1-7 Pokemon in here. Honestly, I want to take advantage of the Gen 4+ Pokemon here, so I'll probably replace Bulbasaur early. I know this hack has Z-moves, this is going to be exciting.īulbasaur was randomly selected as my starter, so I went with that. There are more, but I'm sure I'll comment on them as I play this hack. As for this hack specifically, it has all Pokemon from Gen 1-7, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee sprites for the Gym Leaders and Elite 4, new moves, and updated movesets, smarter AI, and Gen 7 style Exp. There are just so many changes, way too many to list. Moves updated to at least Gen 7, as well as abilities and stats. You can even choose to have old-style mechanics. A Dexnav, Gen 1-7 Pokemon (not all of them), obvious Quality-of-Life features like reusable TMs, Physical/Special split. It has all kinds of features that can bring FR hacks to modern gen standards. Developed by the Unbound creator, Skeli, it's pretty much the future of Pokemon ROMhacking.

Apart from brief sessions with the Battle Frontier Demo for Unbound, this is the first hack I'll play that uses the Complete Fire Red Upgrade engine. The title of the hack may be very self-aware, but I'm excited to play this hack.
